八岁的农村男孩凡凡因先天性心脏病住进医院，巨额医疗费让凡凡一家困苦不堪，医院联系电视台希望通过宣传得到帮助，懒散的记者于亮去拍摄了凡凡的情况。爷爷向残疾的赵飞借了高利贷，但并不能解燃眉之急。此时一神秘女士给凡凡捐了巨款，凡凡母亲到电视台要感谢此人，才发现于亮拍摄的凡凡素材还没有剪辑，为保住工作，于亮只得受命前去寻找捐款人，结果碰到几个冒称捐款人的女士，这让于亮的心灵有所震动，加上面对女朋友王楠楠的质问，他开始思考自己的职业态度。赵飞想敲诈凡凡的巨额捐款，就绑架了凡凡和前来看望凡凡的捐款人张晓兰。为了凡凡，同时知道赵飞也是个苦命孩子，张晓兰答应给他钱。于亮得知此消息最终见到了张晓兰，但被告知不能拍摄不能宣传，而于亮却欺骗她偷偷录了像，台里期待着于亮的采访报道，并要给他升职，可是于亮看完剪辑的成片被张晓兰感动，觉得愧对张晓兰，最终他拿走了所有的素材辞掉电视台的工作，用DV去拍摄那些需要帮助的残疾儿童……赵飞被张晓兰所感动，把所有的积蓄都捐给了那些残疾的孩子，而凡凡已经康复，继续在田野里放他的风筝。。It's supposed to be a fresh start: One year after the loss of her husband, Nicole settles with her young adult children Justine and Jason in Purity Falls.
