民工杨红旗几次三番跑到报社要求登报表扬自己，因为自己在一起强奸未遂案中救了一个姑娘，可是当事人女大学生欧阳花对这件事却坚决否认，并且声称自己从未见过杨红旗。记者古国歌在调查中得知杨红旗要求登报表扬是为了完成父亲在临终前的愿望，然而直到其父去世依然没有看到儿子被登报表扬，古国歌受到很大的触动。在警察女友米一的帮助下，古国歌很快就找到了事件的真相。真相自然使杨红旗了了登报受表扬的心愿，可是却深深的伤害了想维护自己清誉的女大学生欧阳花，与此同时，古国歌也陷入了不知对错的矛盾之中…… 本片在2005年第八届上海国际电影节上荣获评委会大奖以及最佳剧本奖。。Inspired by W.G.
