本片是马永贞故事的又一个版本。 武艺高强的莫荣贞（王华饰）携妹妹淑贞从山东来到上海。他们举目无亲，结识了流浪儿小山东（范冬雨饰）；一场意外，兄妹失散，莫荣贞只得违悖心愿当了一名地下拳手。由于为人正直得罪了黑社会老大白爷（夏天饰），在一场追杀中遇上了歌女小凤（李芸饰），并通过她认识了心胸坦荡的运输界代表谭四（陈观泰饰）。他的淑贞被失业的穷书生俊文救助后产生了感情。俊文无意中在寺庙发现了洋人盗墓之秘，被打成重伤，而这件事的幕后人正是白爷...... 莫荣贞在惩治恶少王公子的活动中非但得到谭四的帮助并由此受到提携，由此进入了上层社会，在一次宴会里认识了白爷的女儿丽娜，丽娜对他暗生情意，她因此帮助莫荣贞兄妹重逢。 几番风雨，莫荣贞狠狠打击了外国势力，但始终没看清白爷的真正面目，最后在即将离开上海的前夕，白爷通过丽娜请他吃最后一顿晚餐…… 值得一提的是本片中扮演谭四的陈观泰正是邵氏电影《马永贞》的主演陈观泰。。A mysterious criminal rolls into a small town planning to knock off the local bank, assuming it will go off without a hitch.
